The focus of MYP curriculum is to connect the learning of the students to the real world. To achieve this aim, there are 6 global contexts given by IB. The basic expectations of MYP program is to connect every unit with any one of the global contexts and explore the unit based on it.

The global contexts given by IB are very generic and can be connected to any unit easily. There is no hard and fast rule of connecting a specific Global context to a unit. The selection of the global context depends upon the area of focus in any unit.

To make the students understand that the same unit can be connected to different Global contexts, I did an activity in my L&L class.

I introduced the unit to my students but did not tell them the Global Context selected for that unit. Instead, I grouped my students and gave them different Global contexts and asked them to connect the unit with the given context.

This activity helped my students to get more insights on the global contexts and make connections to the unit and the selected Global context in a more critical manner.
