The IDU exhibition was organised by the students of Indus specifically to showcase their understanding of Interdisciplinary units to their parents/guardians under my leadership. This was done through fun and interactive activities that described the link between two or more subjects. The session took a lot of time, hard work and dedication of several people.

The students first started preparing by planning the roles. Who is going to do or say what? What activity are they going to do to impress the parents? They did this during all of the extra time, and also during a specifically allotted period at the end of the day. They worked during this time with their specific teachers, creating the charts and planning the activities and roles. The end result was a superbly coordinated program that ran smoothly thanks to the co-operation of several likeminded students and teachers.

Even those who weren’t put in any station had a large and important role to play. These students helped by arranging the soft boards and desks of the respective classrooms. The soft boards showcased the knowledge of IDLs and such links between two or more subjects that the students are learning and displayed several of the key elements of IB, including the Global Contexts and stages of Design Thinking. Most important of all, they provided moral support for their peers, and helped them prepare.

Perfection was everything during those tumultuous few days, and the students worked painstakingly to ensure perfection. The teachers and students were all exhausted at the end, but they still kept a smile and continued to work and do their best. This was not without its own share of learning, as students learnt valuable ATL skills such as collaboration and self-management skills.

The IDU workshop taught both the students and the parents several valuable lessons. The parents left knowing about IB attributes and the importance of Interdisciplinary units, and the students with several invaluable life skills that would guide them for the rest of their lives.
