Human rights are "the basic rights and freedoms to which all humans are entitled". They guarantee people the means necessary to satisfy their basic needs so they can take full advantage of all opportunities. Human rights also protect people against abuse by those who are more powerful.
The students of grade 6, organised a gallery walk as part of their Language and Literature class where they spoke about the different rights we have and explained the importance of knowing our rights through stories. In the unit, 'Express Yourself', the students are learning to write short stories. They used their learning to visually demonstrate their stories using their own creative ways and spread awareness on human rights violation. The students organised the gallery walk for their junior- grade 4 and 5.
It was a fun activity where the students not only learnt to write stories and about their rights but also developed their communication and social skills.
